Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Training Manual

The Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) Training Manual was developed by the Federal Government of Somalia, Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (MoAI), with support from donors through the Somali Resilience Program (SomReP) and the Response Innovation Lab (RIL).

The manual emerged from a Solution Pack on Agricultural Capacity workshop held in Mogadishu in May 2019 and was developed through a collaborative process involving government, agriculture sector stakeholders and technical partners.

Designed as a standard training resource for agriculture extension officers, lead farmers and other agricultural practitioners, the manual provides practical guidance on GAP for key Somali crop value chains, including maize, sorghum, rice, cowpeas, mung beans, groundnuts, sesame and sunflower.

Its overarching goal is to empower farmers and communities to adopt climate-smart agricultural practices that increase productivity, strengthen resilience to climate and other shocks, and reduce greenhouse gas emission
